Tuesday night

I'm sure you've heard: Tuesday night we got some bad news. Progressives worked so hard over the past year to shine a light on Scott Walker’s record and hold him accountable, yet we didn’t get the outcome we needed.

But this is not an end, it’s just another beginning. Despite GOP voter suppression efforts, it looks like Democrats took back the Wisconsin State Senate. John Lehman defeated Republican Van Wanggaard and gave Democrats a one seat majority in the Senate, a way to block Scott Walker’s dangerous agenda.

State level is where it's at! State legislation round-up 7/28/11

It seems that everywhere you turn this week, all you hear about is the federal debt ceiling debate. If I hear "Gang of 6", "default", or "Boehner" one more time, I might explode. Take a break from the looming national crisis and brush up on the legislation that's being talked about in the states!

Protest Songs Through the Ages - Be inspired to write the next one!

Today Progressive Majority and Grassrooting Productions launched a collaborative protest song project to raise awareness of the Wisconsin recall elections! (read our recent blog post and check out the official website!)

In honor of the launch of this project, I've compiled a list of famous protest songs (plus a few of my personal favorites) to hopefully inspire you to participate in our project and collaborate to write the next big protest song! Music is such a powerful tool, as evidenced by the songs below. Let's use the power of music together to bring attention to the Wisconsin recall elections and the fight for labor rights that they stemmed from.

Let's Unite Our Voices!

State legislation of the week! - 7/21/11

Reproductive Rights - New Hampshire

Last month, New Hampshire legislators voted to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, causing six clinics in the state to stop providing birth control. Last week, the state's exective council had a chance to reverse this vote, but anti-choicers won out. It's a bleak situation for women in New Hampshire, not to mention all the other states who are marginalizing women's health issues.

Vlog Entry: Rising unemployment and recalls, recalls, recalls

The Progressive Majority interns and I had lunch at Farragut North and talked to some DC locals about the issues of the day.

Round-up of this week's noteworthy legislation

A lot has been happening this week in state legislatures as many congressional sessions are coming to a close. Some states are still hashing it out, hoping to not cut too much time out of their summer recesses. Here's a quick round-up of what's been passed, what hasn't been passed, and what's still being fought over in the states.

Deregulation is GOP's game

The name of the environmental game for Republican state legislators is deregulation.
